I attended my first Bar Camp Event yesterday. For those unfamiliar, Bar Camps have nothing to do with drinking or bars. (Although there was a little time prior to the event)
The bar camp is a conference that is an open, participatory workshop-event, where the content is provided by participants.
The Bar Camp that I attended was the Seattle Real Estate Bar Camp where over 400 people attended to learn and teach the best ideas to succeed in Real Estate. Ian Watt gave a great Keynote and one of the things that struck a chord with me was that he spends an hour a day on content for his website. He stated that “why should I expect someone to visit my website if I am not prepared to spend the time to make it valuable”. (much of his business is as a result of his website)
I met a bunch of great people at the conference including the organizers, and the guys at Zillow.
I left thinking about how this type of idea could be incorporated into the building industry to provide more value. If you have thoughts or ideas, I would love to hear them.
